In this webinar we will introduce the principles of Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) and its critical role in building scholarship of teaching and learning. Whether you are conducting small observational studies or large-scale confirmatory research, EDA is a powerful tool to flag potential issues with the data, unveil hidden patterns through description and visualisation, or crystalise possible analyses for future research.

We will focus on contrasting and comparing exploratory and confirmatory approaches to research, their joint importance in theory-building, and discuss best practices on transparently interpreting and communicating findings from exploratory approaches. 

This workshop is for you if:

  • You want ideas on how to effectively describe, summarise, and visualise data for publication in the EJEE.
  • You want to understand malpractices such as HARKing and p-hacking, and actively avoid them your work.
  • You want to learn how to conduct high-quality quantitative research without focusing on p-values or null-hypothesis significance testing.
