Transdisciplinary Multispectral Modelling and Cooperation for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage
The 1rst International Conference on “Transdisciplinary Multispectral Modelling and Cooperation for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage (TMM_CH)” took place in Athens in October this year. The conference was a diligent success due to the multi-faceted program, but also because of the dedication of the organisers and the participants. There were 237 submissions, 106 approved oral presentations, 4 roundtable discussions, and 30 participants.
Preservation is about engineering and during this conference the challenge of improving preservation education was high on the agenda. The combination of a museum visit to the digital exhibition of ‘The Tomb of Christ’ project, a visit to the Acropolis under the guidance of the main scientists and the conference program of presentations and discussions all made it worthwhile in this European Year of Cultural Heritage.
Prof. Antonia Moropoulou from the National Technical University in Athens and former vice-president of SEFI, was the main organizer of the event. And at the conference, a DG Connect Representative of the European Commission announced that a ‘European Competence Center for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage’ will be established in the coming years in Athens under the guidance of the National Technical University of Athens.
The proceedings will be published by Springer and other special issues of journals of mutual interests. It is planned to have the second conference on ‘Preservation of Cultural Heritage’ in 2020. Read More
